Welcome to Jay's 2018 Progress Thread!
I have returned for 2018, which will be my ninth WriYe! I had an indifferent 2017 where I did a bit of writing (reached 75% of my goal), but I didn't finish anywhere near the number of pieces I wanted to. So 2018 is going to be focused on turning works in progress into completed works. I've decided to go for a lower word count of 75,000 that will hopefully mean I'll spend more time editing and finishing things off.
I will again be focusing on my Star Trek fan fiction series, which is call Star Trek: The Farthest Star. It is a reboot of my old series Star Trek: Swiftfire that I started back when Y2K was a thing. It needed some major updating of the older material and rather than just do a couple of rewrites (which I had done in the past) I decided to tear it all down. It was all very exciting as I had true freedom to do what I want and forge a newish path, but life has conspired to see only a few short stories get done in the last 2 years. This year I want to get the major story that starts the core episodic content finished.
To start the year I'm going to set my writings goals to finishing the major story I mentioned above and two short stories. Very modest, but still would be an improvement over 2017. To kick things off I have my two main WiPs from 2017 as my initial starting points for 2018.
#1. Feeling the Heat
Started this last two years. It is the new starting point for an episodic series focusing on the crew of the USS Swiftfire. Basic plot is the USS Swiftfire is overseeing the installation of a new power generator for a colony. The colony is raided, people get captured, ships get thrown into the atmosphere of planets, general hilarity in other words.
#2. First Choice
This short story is a companion piece to the story above. It covers how one of the characters comes to join the crew just before "Feeling the Heat".
- 75,000 words
- Complete "Feeling the Heat"
- Complete 2 short stories
- Do all the WriYe Blogging Circle prompts
So those are my goals for 2018 and the projects I'm starting the year with. I look forward to hopefully, maybe, possibly, sort of, getting them done.
