Another year, another progress thread that will likely fall by the wayside. My goals this year are pretty moderate, I think, so hopefully I'll be able to overcome my laziness and achieve everything I want to. Fingers crossed.
This year I'm working on the second draft / rewrite of a fantasy novel I finished in 2017. My focus is going to be on the quality of the second draft rather than the quantity of words (though reaching 80k would obviously be ideal). I probably won't be paying a lot of attention to daily word counts and such this time around, but I still want to have completed the second draft by the end of the year.
All planning and outlining for second draft complete | 21st February
Second draft of Chapter 1 complete | 21st February
My writing group has their first meeting for the year on 21st February and the above goals are what I committed to achieving by then. I want to have all my planning and outlining ready to go and the first chapter done so I can submit it to my group for critique.
By the end of 2018 I want the second draft of this novel to be complete and ready for structural editing / critique. It'd also be nice if I could figure out a good title for it by then.
In non-novel writing, I'd like to have submitted a few short stories to magazines (and hopefully get at least one published!). I do love writing short stories and flash fiction, but I'm considerably worse at finishing what I start. So I want to try and become more disciplined in that area and follow through with all the tantalizing ideas that I get.
I'd also like to publish some more blog posts, though I don't necessarily need to post 'regularly'. I'm the sort of person who has re-done my blog numerous times over the years, deleting multiple posts at a time and changing the 'purpose', I guess you could say, of my blog. So, the blog's looking a bit sad at the moment and I'd like to post more - ideally a couple '5 faves' posts and if I manage to get some short stories published, I can post about that too.
I think that's all for now.
