Inspired by a post on /r/Fantasy that asked what you have just finished reading, what you're currently reading, and what you're planning to read next. I didn't feel quite right commenting on that reddit post because most of my answer at the moment isn't in that genre. So here we are!
Feel free to include a brief summary of/comment on the books as well!
Just finished: The Golden Age by Joan London. A short historical fiction novel about kids at a polio hospital in Australia. One of my book club books - not something I'd pick myself.
Currently reading: No Friend But The Mountains by Behrouz Boochani. [audiobook] A non-fiction account of life inside Manus prison by an asylum-seeker. I originally borrowed the physical book from the library when it first came out but had to return it because I'd only got a few chapters in, there was a huge waiting list, and I wasn't going to finish it before the shortened due date. There's a different narrator for each chapter, which was a good strategy.
Also currently reading The Cruelest Miles: The Heroic Story of Dogs and Men in a Race Against an Epidemic by Gay Salisbury and Laney Salisbury. I decided to read this because I saw the trailer for Togo and someone on reddit mentioned a few books about the serum run. I'm about halfway through and it's really engaging and educational. After I got a dog of my own I'm such a sucker for dog stories.
Planning to read next: I haven't decided for sure yet. I've got a few books on my to-read pile and I'll have another book club book to read by then as well. I need a break from non-fiction, so I'll likely go with Nevernight by Jay Kristoff, Oathbringer by Brandon Sanderson (only got a couple chapters in a while ago, so will have to start over to refresh my memory), or Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor. I'll also start another audiobook.
