This time, it's not about mustaches (but if you want to shave that, go ahead)!
Many of us writer/artist types have a bad habit. We tend to be magpies when it comes to new pens, inks, art supplies, notebooks... If it is made of paper or goes onto paper, we want it. And that leads to a huge stockpile of things that we may never end up using.
Well, for 2021, some of us Discord chatters decided that we were going to make an effort to reduce the amount of stationery and art supplies we had by using up part of our stash. Hence, Shave the Stash.
If you're up for reducing some of your hoard, and making room in your living space, then join us here.
Tell me:
What do you hoard?
How are you going to use them?
What is your goal?
Edit: I have made a spreadsheet for your tracking! If you need something to help you figure out what you have left to use, or just want to see numbers, here you go!

[Maybe if I post my goals, it will actually happen]What do you hoard?: Notebooks, art supplies, and pens [more may be added as I go through my things] How are you going to use them?:
- Notebooks: regular journal, reading journal, music journal, notebook for random studies, Japanese studies, "at-a-glance" story bible, specific novel notebooks, and a notebook for the Luddite Challenge if I decided to participate.
- Art Supplies: I have various art studies I'd like to do so using these up won't be a problem. I'm also not allowed to buy more unless they are used up. This should be the easy one of all my...collections.
- Pens: I'll use these with the other two things I hoard.
What is your goal?:I know I probably won't use everything up but to use some of it instead of buying something new. Or if I don't find any use for it then give it away or something. I don't have a lot of space in my apartment so it would be nice to free up a little more. I also have an inventory list that I will be updating [on Notion] so I'll know where I'm at with my supplies.

What do you hoard? Notebooks, particularly spiral bound A5 hard cover with lined paper ones, usually with pretty/fancy covers. Yarn Assorted fabric
How are you going to use them? Notebooks: I had reserved a couple for journaling, but I've slipped out of the habit this year. I've got a partially used one from Luddite 2020 that I can continue using for Luddite 2021. Yarn and Fabric: I'm considering going self-employed and actually using my creative skills to make and sell stuff.
What is your goal? Get back into journaling, find the random partially used notebooks and actually use them, put the unused ones together so I can see exactly how many I've got (and actually get around to using them, be it for journaling/prayer diary/creative writing/learning stuff), and tell myself I don't need to buy any more! Decide what I want to make with the yarn and fabric, actually make it, and investigate ways I can sell the stuff I'm making (and hopefully sell stuff!).

What do you hoard? Journals/notebooks, watercolor pads/journals, art supplies.
What is your goal/how are you going to use them? To do watercolor art at least every week, sketch everyday, participate in the Luddite challenge, more handwriting planning, actually use my planner all year long, try new art mediums like pouring and gouache.
I make it sound so easy but I know it won't be.

What do you hoard? Notebooks and pens
How are you going to use them? Morning pages, Luddite pages, all sort of brainstorming pages (writing, habit tracking, lists, etc). I'm also intending to keep a BuJo/pain journal
What is your goal? 10% of the stash.

What do you hoard? Pens. So many pens (and inks). I also have a good amount of notebooks to use those pens in..
How are you going to use them? Drawing! I plan on doing Sketch a Day for both drawing practice and lettering.
What is your goal? Nothing concrete yet, but I'd like to at least finish a sketchbook and make a dent in my pens so I can buy more.

What do you hoard? Notebooks, pens, yarn and spinning fiber. Also beads, but I don't think I'm ready to tackle that this year.
How are you going to use them? Pens and notebooks will be spread between my Luddite project(s), my character bio journals, and the worldbuilding/writing bujo. The fiber will be turned into yarn, and the yarn will be turned into gifts for other people, sweaters and other wearables (some of which even for me), bags (which sometimes also end up as gifts). I'll probably dip back into charity crocheting this year as well.
What is your goal? 10%, hopefully.

What do you hoard? Lots of things. Art supplies, notebooks, sketchbooks, ink...
How are you going to use them? By filling them up! Any notebooks/sketchbooks, let's use that ink and paint to fill them and finish them up!
What is your goal? 10%, hopefully!

I'm realizing I never updated my goal here (did on my progress thread) to 5% when I realized months ago that 10% was completely unattainable. Oops. But 5% has been achieved! Of the 305 notebooks, pens, and ink I've got, in 2021 I used 16 up completely, putting me at 5.2%. Goal for next year is another 5%.

I'm um...I'm back. I was interested in this a year ago. But now, taking inventory of all of my notebooks...I have a problem. Photos will be added to this post soon.

Hello, hello! I'm back for a third year of Stash Shaving. I may never update this thread with my success, but this is the one challenge I'm routinely succeeding at, despite people continuing to buy me pens and notebooks. I'm looking to shave 10% of my current stash this year, which should be more doable now that the stash has shrunk.

Hello, I’m Sam, and I have an art supply problem haha.
I never signed up for this because when it was first talked about I a) didn’t have the stash I do now, and b) it was talk about notebooks and I have a handful but not what others were saying and so I just totally forgot this was a thing. Buuuuuut yes I now have a problem. I keep buying art paper thinking different paper will help me, and I have sooooooo many art pads now (and also a lot of art supplies). I have this resistance to using ‘my good paper’ unless I am doing a proper project. But I can’t really practice properly on bad paper, and the more frustrated I get the less I want to do it, hence I only really dig out the supplies for the big projects. That means I’m not very disciplined in terms of regular practice and that is something I would like to change.
As for a goal, let’s not go too crazy. If I could completely fill up just one art pad that would be amazing.
I saw a sticker on RedBubble and fell in love with the design (had it on a mug, t-shirt and the sticker for christmas). It said “Rebel artist” and it was inspired by Sabine from Star Wars Rebels. I stuck it on the front of a brand new sketchbook. If I could fill that book this year I would be so happy.
Good luck to everyone!
