Welcome to Jay's 2021 Progress Thread!
Another year, another WriYe!
For 2021 I'm again going for a low yearly goal based on just sneaking over the line last year at the same amount. That said I'm looking towards something else to hopefully inspire a better year: the couch to 5k (C25k) program. I started this beginner's running program towards the end of last year and despite being unfit enough that it took me 3 weeks to move past Week 1 I'm starting 2021 in the final third of the program. It's been a bit weird. I wasn't into running as a kid (swimming and ball sports were my thing) and I don't have a real desire to be one now. However, I'm doing it and to my surprise it hasn't be absolutely terrible.
C25K is something done over time. It's not a sprint and your aim is to build towards a bigger goal. While it has a structure and an optimal time frame, it's flexible and you can make it work for you. Sure distance is a big thing, but it is really all about pace. You just have to find that sustainable pace to see it through to the end whether its a multiple shorter intervals or a single bigger run. In these ways it does remind me of WriYe. So in the spirit of C25K that's why my progress thread this year is a jotting couch to 50K. I'm hoping some of the success I've experienced in C25K rubs off onto my WriYe journey in 2021.
- 50,000 words
- Complete something...anything...please!
For 2021 I've set myself two goals. The first is my WriYe word count, which is 50,000 words. I just scraped over the line last year at 50K, so I'm going to stick with it. For the first half of last year I did look like I could up my goal, but that didn't happen. I'd be thrilled to take that next step this year if it happens.
My second goal is to finish something. It doesn't matter what it is. It just has to be completed. I didn't get anything finished in 2020, but the two pieces I started last year are looking good for 2021. Hopefully that will be just the start of a good year.
So here's to 2021! May it be a fairly normal year...whatever that now means.
