I think the one on the top is interesting. Very galactic in appearance. I don't know if that is what you intended, but I like it. The one in the middle reminds me of one of my smaller paintings, but I like it too. And the one with the moon is really nice too.

Pretty! Is the texture from the paper?

You know, I meant to ask about the paper/backgrounds too. Thanks for reminding me, Kandy! What is the background made of, Roisin? Is it paper? Or is it cloth?

The mica watercolors do amplify the texture of the paper. It's black watercolor paper from Legion.

Here's a question--I've been using colored pencils lately, but I find when I go to scan them in or take a picture the colors get really washed out, especially the lighter ones. Any tips on getting a better picture?

auroralynneskye , I'd imagine your local art supply store would have it. I'm not sure where you are.
I get my art supplies from three places, Dick Blick's, Micheal's and Amazon. I tend to prefer Dick Blick's over the other two, as they have more stock and lower prices but sometimes Michael's and Amazon will have something for cheaper or have something that Dick Blick's doesn't carry. Micheal's quite often has coupons as well. I price compare all the time. Link to the Legion Stonehenge Aqua Black Watercolor Paper at Blick's and at Michael's.

Thanks, Roisin. I'll have to look into it. I have a Michael's where I can get at it. Do you know if Hobby Lobby would carry it?

The illustration of a flashback scene in Chapter 4 of Our Darkest Hour, Sanctuary fanfic. John/James/Helen in a fluffy moment at christmas. (click for a larger version)
My #December drawing. and yes *cough* that does make it an entire year since my last drawing. We'll just gloss over that. I wrote a blog post about this drawing (and a bit about my previous art timeline) and where I'm hoping to go in the upcoming year. Obviously I'm hoping that by this time next year I'll have shown an improvement. Can only hope!

In the midst of my 100 Heads challenge, I have realized that the old Art Class curse is back. Why can't both eyes work?

OMG Keri that's amazing. Look at the shading on the cheekbone. That's incredible. Wow. It looks like a real person. Did you just eyeball that? Or was there measuring involved? Teach me your ways

Teach me your ways Aww thank you! I had a few art classes in high school that I'm trying to recall all of my lessons from. They return slowly.
Usually, when I start drawing a face, I do this to lay it out (very basically) and then sort of...connect the dots? And erase. A lot. Frequently.
And for shading, I always use a tortillon and/or blending stump to soften the lines. Not as easy with mechanical pencil (really better with graphite pencils) but those plus kneaded erasers save my life!
