we have a new layout / skin! if you're reading this, you've probably already realized that. you have the option to change back to many of our previous skins at any time through your profile settings, if you prefer.
it's time for wriye 2021! if you're new here, or returning and would like a refresher, make sure to check out the wriye 2021 information post to get started!
we are very happy you are here and can't wait to write (and edit!) words with you in 2021.
hello, and welcome to wriye: the year-long writing community born out of a dual love of writing lots of words and organized challenges. if you are planning on writing -- or editing -- at all this year, we'd love for you to join our community! there's no goal too large or too small; we believe that all words are good words here and will always encourage everyone, no matter their goal. if you're looking for a group of writers to support you along your own writing-journey, this is the place for you.
This is our eighteenth year of this wonderful event! While there have been several changes in the way things operate over those years, the core of WriYe has always remained the same: write all year and make new friends doing so. So, once you've decided how much you want to write in 2021 and have signed up for a goal, introduce yourself here and get to know each other. Say whatever you would like (however much or however little), and have a great time.
I'm Roisin, one of your friendly neighborhood mods.
I have been on WriYe since late 2009 (wow, over 10 years already). I mainly write realistic fiction, focusing on the fun that are families and relationships, though sometimes some fantasy elements will get thrown in because, why not. You can read two of my works in progress, Scratches & Scars and The Fitzgeralds in RaTs.
I live in the Seattle area with my three cats and my corgi. I work as a chef and also like to dabble in photography, play around with paints and bake. I love music and will easily geek out about my favorite bands and songs (and sometimes like to sneak them into my writing).
I hope 2021 will be a better year not only for me but for everyone.
Hi! I'm Ana (also go by Tatra at times) and I've been doing Wriye since 2009 (though there were a few years I was barely here) and I love this place!
Writing wise, I write a lot of fantasy novels, or Young Adult novels. Sometimes I write a lot of words (not promising that they are the best words, lol). This year I hope to focus on the projects a little bit more than the word count.
Real life wise, I do admin work for child care center licensing, I have a ton of cats, I like to read, and craft things with yarn.

Hi, I'm Sam. I joined WriYe years ago (I forget when) but just lurked until I remembered it existed late 2019. I decided to go all in last year but then 2020 happened and not so great. Buuuuut we're moving past that because whooo 2021.
I mainly write Sci-Fi, Fantasy (often both mixed together), but I have so many ideas that cover all kinds of genres. Recently, to rediscover my love for writing I've started writing fanfic again. I'm basically a huge fan of things and I watch far too much TV heh. I'm also trying to learn how to draw better and I'm crazy over Lego.

Hey, I publish under the name A. J. Barber, though I usually go by Nonny online. I joined WriYe halfway through 2020, so I'm looking forward to my first full year! I mostly write fantasy, sometimes sci fi, and I cannot stick to a single subgenre to save my life haha. I published my first books (urban fantasy) in 2020, and I'm looking to publish some paranormal cozy mysteries and a fairytale retelling in 2021.

Hi, Mattew, 27, here. 1st try of a WriYe. I've had a book I wrote and rewrote since 2013 (mostly during NaNoWriMo) so 2021 will be the year I do a proper project on Scrivener and perfect my style as possible so I can finally present this first tome to publishers.
I don't know if I'll be active on forum though as I don't know many people around

Hi we're thedreamwriters/Emma. We're a 32 year old disabled plural system (many consciousnesses in one shared life/body) living in north-central Massachusetts. We took a break from WriYe this past year. Returning this year for accountability since our intuitive guidance is insisting that 2021 is a visibility year of epic proportions. We write fanfiction, speculative fiction, memoir, and the occasional article/guide/course for niche subject areas (occultism, energywork, plurality). The major goals for this coming year are: 1. Actually get our open source universes lore written down and put onto our wiki 2. Get some longstanding fanfic WIPs off the project table.
Hi I'm Mel! I've done Wriye off and on since 2009, though I'm fairly certain 2020 was my first win, lol.
I live in the Seattle area (though I'm originally from PA - hi east coast friends :]) and write primarily fantasy/sci-fi (of the space opera variety, I am not a scientist). I mostly play video games in my ample free time (I've spent this entire month writing mass effect fanfiction because its been like 10 years and I am not over it) and I've been getting more into lettering/calligraphy with my ever growing fountain pen collection.

Hi I'm Lucretia ! I am a French-speaking (and -writing) author. I joined Wriye last year and I am quite happy to do it again this year. I mostly write romance and erotica but I am also trying to make my debut in young adult / children books.
I am the friendly neighborhood enabler mod! Don't get me started on fountain pens or ink or anything else because I am very bad at helping people not spend money.
I've been with WriYe for awhile now, at least since 2009. It's the one thing that keeps me accountable. I write all over the place, but my home genre will always be epic fantasy. You can see me in the Discord chat whining about why my novels are so long and the answer is always "because fantasy."
If you want inspiration, hit me up. I'm always free to cheer and support, no matter what the word count or genre! I happen to think I am a semi-decent cheerleader to get people writing. Oh, and all those crazy challenges? Good chance it was me.
Outside of the writing world, I am a full-time scientist, part-time professor, mother/servant to a toddler, and native New Yawker (originally Lawn-Guyland, but now "The City").
I'm Tracey! I've been around since 2010 (I think) and I absolutely love the community here. No, seriously. The people here are awesome and it's the reason why I have no problem coming back (even though I do tend to disappear from the forums for 3 or 4 months of the year). I usually write adult fantasy and science fiction but will branch out occasionally.
I work as an early childhood educator, full time. I'm into cartography, especially for fantasy/made-up worlds, and I'm working on getting better at my digital art skills. Some other hobbies: art(in general), cooking, baking, reading, video games, and I'm sure there are more.

Hi, I'm Crystal!
I write in the many flavors of fantasy, both YA and new adult. 2020 saw me finish both the first and second drafts of a novel I hope to query to agents in 2021 and working to turn writing into a traditional publishing career will be my focus for the year.
Other than reading and writing I don't do much. My time is mainly spent binging fantasy/sci-fi shows and movies on various streaming services and loving on my four Great Danes (yes I have about 600 pounds of dog in my house and yes it is definitely too much).

Hi, I'm Teresa, and I've been around since at least 2009, but maybe longer. I did take a couple of years away, and in prior years ended up going fairly strongly for the first few months until summer kicked in, and then I would drift away. Here's hoping all the time I've been spending on the Discord (and showing up as frequently as possible for night wars) keeps me engaged.
My home genre is contemporary fantasy, although I play around a lot in every other thing under the speculative fiction umbrella except horror. This year is probably going to end up heavily SpaceYe based on my rough plans for the year, though. I'm addicted to writing series because I apparently need to know what everybody's story is. I've started mapping out my arcs so I have a better idea as to series length, so that's progress.
Outside of writing and reading, my other hobbies are crochet and spinning yarn. I play around with sewing, but more often than not it ends up abandoned while I'm indulging one of my other hobbies. I have a very all or nothing kind of personality when it comes to my hobbies, so I'm (again) trying to learn balance.

Hi! I'm Rin, but can go by Khels, as I made this account...a while ago, only really active in the last year.
Live in Portland, I try to write in spite of crippling anxiety, and have 5 support animals, 2 normal cats, 1 dog-cat and 2 bird-cats, along with all the neighborhood ferals we feed, spay/neuter and otherwise spoil rotten.
I write a mix of adventure/fantasy/romance, have somewhere between 5 and 12 projects rolling around at any time. Trying to get consistent about writing, and write the books I want to read, and stop worrying about publishing. I want to write for fun, and finish what I start. Excited to be back in the community for 2021, and a fresh start.
